Kev’s music CV.
Born in Auckland, New Zealand
Started piano lessons at the age of seven and continued for two years. At the age of nine I started drum lessons with Peter Slade, the original drummer with NZ band Split Enz ( later to become Crowded House). A year later, age ten, I joined my first band, a well established covers band who used my age as a selling point, working well as we were booked solidly for four years playing six nights a week.
When I was 14 years old I was offered the position of percussionist for the New Zealand Youth Orchestra, tour Europe, Canada and Asia in 1981 and recording my first album. Whilst still working with the NZYO I also joined hardcore punk band “Dead Image” recording a EP and gigging on a regular basis. I left the NZYO in 1982 and joined a up and coming new wave band called the “Plastic Pegs”, whilst I was still working on and off with “Dead Image”. I toured for 18 months and recorded one album with “Plastic Pegs” the album was financed by a local venue owner named Russ le Roc ( later to be known as Russell Crowe). In 1984 I formed a covers/original band “Bond Street Blues Band” which did everything from 50s blues to AC/DC plus originals. We toured, gigged and recorded mainly for Television New Zealand for tv sound tracks for 3 years.
In 1987 I left NZ to come to England working for a year before travelling to Australia, where I lived and worked until 1989 when I returned to England. I worked with a metal band, “Red Wing” gigging a reasonable amount in 1989/1990. In late 1990 I meet guitar wiz Mario Parga ( played with Graham Bonnet and Cozy Powell’s solo projects) and joined his band along with fellow band members Marty Siggery, bassist( also worked with Nicky Moore, Carlos Creator Violently Funky and the Anti Nowhere League), guitarist Dave Kilminster ( voted guitarist of the year 1991 and 1992, also worked with Keith Emerson, and currently touring with Roger Waters of Pink Floyd on his solo tour). I still work with Mario Parga to date. In 1993, myself and Marty Siggery formed funk metal outfit Violently Funky, gigging with some well established bands such as “Killers” Paul Dianno’s band (ex Iron Maiden) for which we were main support for several south east gigs. Whilst I was with “Violently Funky” I was offered the drumming position with the “Anti Nowhere League” in 1995. I worked with the ANWL for several years, recording four albums and doing several UK and European tours, before leaving in 1998.From 1998 till 2005 I concentrated most of my time on my business, but kept my “hand in” with my drumming, working with a local covers band and doing session work. In late 2005/2006, I had moved back into a more high profile situation with my music, working on recordings with Mario Parga and more recently with Trace Walton (a Texan southern rock artist based in the south east of England), playing on his debut album, recorded in East Sussex (my home county), which featured guest appearances by several name musicians and celebrities, including Bill Oddie on harmonica and Damen Butcher on keyboards from the “Beautiful South”.
Late in 2006 the drumming position in “Vice Squad” became available, and I auditioned for the position. And as they say the rest is history.
I must say how priviliged I feel, being a member of a band with such a fearsome reputation and probably one of the best known and talented female rock singers in the business. I’m looking forward to seeing all the fans in our up and coming gigs. Rock on 2007 !!!!!
