Jaxx, Ilfracombe.

Last time we played this venue it was called ‘Club Phoenix’ which we thought was great as we’re fans of Peter Kay’s ‘Phoenix Nights’.

It’s always a pleasure to go somewhere with beautiful scenery and friendly people, Last time we played it was the middle of winter so the club was a bit dead.

We stayed overnight at a local hotel and when Mildred and Tone ventured into a local record shop the next day the owner said `I ‘ear you din’t get up fer breakfast`, so news of our eating habits travelled fast !This time there were a lot more people there to see us and opening band The Still Borns ( thanks for the back line loan guys, and I liked the song about wankers ).
Promoter Ray is a lovely chap who takes a keen interest in the local music scene and helps new bands, rather like our manager Stu. We really enjoyed playing our set, we had tiny amps but still managed to make a humungous racket and everyone was either dancing, singing along or both.

At one point everyone was singing IL-FRA-CO-OMBE, which was great as it’s time the place was bigged-up.
Lured by AC/DC at the after show hop I managed to give myself a bad case of Head Banger’s Neck  and would like to apologise for my atrocious dancing. Sorry to say some Air Guitar playing took place as well…….some of us have no shame !!! We were very sorry to leave the next day as the place looked gorgeous, we’re not used to sun, sea and greenery, but we’re looking forward to coming back soon and getting away from the Smoke.
